ANDYSMANCLUB and Monster-Mesh Extend Partnership to Tackle Rising Stress Levels in Construction During Stress Awareness Month
UK men’s mental health charity ANDYSMANCLUB and Monster-Mesh, event and construction branding specialists, have announced the continuation of their successful partnership, reinforcing efforts to raise awareness of mental health across the construction industry during Stress Awareness Month.
Originally launched in July 2023, the collaboration combines ANDYSMANCLUB’s mission to end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health with Monster-Mesh’s expertise in large-format print solutions and industry contacts. The partnership has already delivered impactful on-site messaging through a collaboration on branded Heras fence covers and banners, encouraging workers to remember that “It’s Okay To Talk” and now a new survey report has been launched.
The new research reveals that outdoor and site-based workers, who make up a significant proportion of the construction workforce, are facing mounting pressure. Nearly three quarters report moderate to very high stress levels and over two-thirds say their stress levels are the same or higher than they were a year ago.
The findings highlight the everyday pressures faced on-site, with tight deadlines (26%), long hours (23%), and staff shortages (22%) cited as the leading causes of stress. Physical demands, high workloads, and financial pressures also rank among the most common challenges.
Despite this, stigma remains a major barrier. Over half (57%) of outdoor workers say there is pressure in their industry to push through stress rather than talk about it, while half avoid seeking help because they feel they should handle it themselves. Alarmingly, 42% say they do not feel comfortable speaking to colleagues or managers about their mental health.
Lucas Whitehead, Head of Partnerships at Andy’s Man Club told Monster-Mesh,
“Encouraging open conversations whilst making the right support visible and accessible can help workers address stress earlier, preventing it from escalating into a more serious physical or mental health emergency. We face a crisis whereby a high proportion of men do not recognise stress and life crises as mental health challenges, and they are viewed merely as life challenges that we should all get through. Reaching out for help early is key to preventing this escalation.
“The findings of the recent research piece carried out for Stress Awareness Month are deeply concerning. To hear that 72% of outdoor workers report moderate to high stress at work is especially problematic, given the fact that outdoor work is more likely to feature an increased risk of danger. It is paramount that this issue is addressed and that the awareness of services like ours is heightened in the hope that people come forward early before issues develop.”
With almost a third of outdoor workers reporting no access to employer-provided mental health support, and only around a quarter having used available services, the need for visible, accessible messaging has never been greater.
As the partnership continues, both organisations remain committed to breaking down stigma, encouraging open conversations, and helping to create safer, more supportive working environments across the UK.
